James Perry For Mayor
by dsb nola on November 24, 2009
I think I’ll be working to elect James Perry. I caught him today at his Youth Study Center announcement this afternoon. He remembered that I’d once emailed him suggesting he run for city council, back when such thoughts had apparently not crossed his mind. In my email I’d told him I’d volunteer and help him if he ran. So I guess it’s time to step up. I just want to be clear. I’m “all in” for James. G sent him a small donation a while back and I’ll be doing so shortly. I’m supporting him in his race for mayor for the same reason I wanted him to run for City Council years ago: James is a smart, hard working, public minded, very well informed guy. And I’ve always had the sense that James is in it for the city, not himself. And, of course, I generally despise all of the other candidates.
Two more things. I asked James if he read Oyster’s blog, particularly his post urging James to churn out a TV ad that used footage from the Youth Study Center debacle at the recent mayoral forum. He said he was familiar with Oyster’s blog but not the particular post. I summed up the post for him and he said, laughing, “We’ve got some things in the works.”
I also asked him about the news Irvin Mayfield may enter the mayoral race. James didn’t think Mayfield would ultimately enter the race, pointing out how closely associated he is with Mayor Ray Nagin. He also noted that Mayfield is tied up in the Nagin Municipal Auditorium sham.
